Chocolate Lab Puppies With White Spots

My female chocolate lab had 10 puppies 12 days ago. She has a little white spot on her chest. I also have the male who has no white on him. Both breeders have assured me they are both pure chocolate labs. My male lab's breeder told me that one puppy from his litter had a large white patch on the chest. Why would this occur and has he passed this genetic trait on to the puppies?
